Network Marketing 2010: A Conversation with Mark Yarnell

History

The setting is around 1990-92, the last years of my career in the Army when I met Mark. I never made much money in the military, so we (my wife Deborah and I) were accustomed to living happy with less. Deborah usually worked and was always trying to make a little extra money selling consumable products and gave a stab at MLM or network marketing and other home based models in those days. I truly admire her for the way she always worked more than one way to make money. In 1990, she joined Nu Skin and I was very supportive of this venture. The products were great and still are great.

Somewhere along the line, with Deborah’s sponsor I ended up speaking to Mark Yarnell. I immediately liked Mark. He is easy to like with his warm yet straight forward way of chatting. It was an inspirational call hearing from someone that actually made millions in this industry; an industry which has a very high failure rate.

Unfortunately for Deb and me, we did not have the mind-set for success in the network marketing industry at that time and quit when the company hit a bump in the legal road of doing business in the U.S. The company did not do anything wrong mind you, its just the nature of government to sometimes make business difficult.

Mark always stayed in the back of my mind. I read his books whenever they came out always having an interest in him and the industry. I tried again from time to time to sell in the network marketing industry but did not have the passion required to do well until very recently. The mindset is the beginning point!

Today

Today….. I had the good fortune to speak to Mark Yarnell once again. It was a great conversation about the network marketing industry, what is happening today, most likely in the future, and why he came out of retirement for another business building venture….

We agreed that network marketing  is still a great distribution model for certain products and services and that there is a formula or principles for long term  company and distributor success. The biggest tips that I would like to share with you from my conversation with Mark can make a huge difference for many of you struggling in this unforgiving yet wonderful industry.

Mark Yarnell’s 4 Network Marketing Tips For 2010 and Beyond

1. The most successful MLM companies are based on selling consumables…period. No other company that is direct sales or selling non-consumable products and services comes even close. The whole idea is to shift buying what you would normally buy at a store or from a service provider, and make money recommending them to others. You have two markets: business builders and retail customers. Pretty simple, but forgotten principles these days.

2. If you would not buy the service or product without a business opportunity attached..forget it. It is not worth anything to you…why should anyone else consider it valuable? Huge tip.

3. Do not get hooked with online methods. This is just one tool. Open your marketing to encompass all mediums and methods so that you end-up getting on the telephone with your customer or distributor. The bottom line is building a relationship  to gain trust and attract your business.

4. Develop your mindset to win with overwhelming desire, passion, purpose, and patient persistent action. The biggest tip!
