This morning I read an article by Seth Godin that struck a chord with me. I am not a worshiping fan of Seth, but I think he is extremely smart and has very written relevant material for sales and marketing. I respect his opinions.
This article was on reasons why great sales people or marketers are…great. The glaring point that he made is that these great sales and marketing people are great because they understand how to communicate to buying emotional buttons.
The secret to their greatness is that they know what people want and they will never sell or market anything that violates the Golden Rule: “Treat others as you would have them treat you.”
These people gain trust and sell because the consumer plainly feels their sincerity and doesn’t feel manipulated when the natural closing process takes place. They feel they are making a great purchase.
The plus to the Golden Rule? The great sales people and marketers sell to the fringes. They are different and not at all average in any way. They know that most sales people do things the same and get average results. In order to get above average results, they build their skills to above average and look to develop their own style. They also market and sell to the fringes rather than the masses. When the fringes buy, the word spreads and the masses follow.
Build your skill. Do things different. Sell to the fringes (the niches). You will get fantastic results.
